Etiology of viral meningitis in Aleppo-Syria: a retrospective study

Background: Viruses are the most common causative agents of aseptic meningitis syndrome. This study aimed to identify causes viral (VM) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and its relationship with age seasonal variations.Methods: During period, records 129 patients who had been discharged diagnosed VM were identified reviewed. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples collected from these tested PCR using Seeplex V1 AC detection kit that detects herpes simplex virus type 1 2 (HSV1) (HSV2), varicella-zoster (VZV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr (EBV), human herpesvirus 6 (HHV6), V2 enteroviruses (EV).Results: was confirmed in 79 cases (61.42%). Most reported children younger than years (72.15%; 57/79). EV detected at highest incidence 60 (75.9%), followed HSV1and EBV for each (7.6%, each), CMV 3 (3.9%), VZV HHV6 (2.5%, each). found be more frequent during spring season (64.6%; 51/79) peak enteroviral (68.4%; 41/60).Conclusions: Our showed agent Aleppo-Syria. Genotype serotype viruses recommended.
